Vice President of Sales

About This Role
Baumann Paper Company is a family-owned distributor of janitorial, foodservice, and office products serving Kentucky and the surrounding region since 1950. We are hiring a Vice President of Sales to lead our entire commercial organization — a seasoned outside sales team and our inside sales/support group.
This is a leadership seat for someone who runs a team through numbers, not anecdotes. Our sales organization operates on live operating data: real-time dashboards, a managed opportunity pipeline, transparent performance scorecards paid biweekly, quote-to-close tracking, and margin measured where it actually lands. You will inherit working systems and a team with real momentum — your job is to lead both, own pricing, and grow profitable revenue across the region.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Own the annual sales plan — revenue, gross margin, and expense — and the operating cadence that delivers it.
- Hold company pricing authority: quote standards, pricing floors, override approval, discount schedules, and the economics of contract/GPO/bid business. Personally lead the largest renewals.
- Lead and develop the outside sales team: coach weekly from live pipeline, quote, and margin data; ride along in the field monthly with each rep; run the weekly sales meeting and a monthly market/vendor meeting.
- Lead the inside sales/support team: coverage pairings with outside reps, service standards, and the inside team's growth path into outside roles.
- Set performance targets and administer the sales compensation plans with full transparency to the team.
- Recruit ahead of vacancies; own the onboarding and training program for new and experienced reps.
- Build business development plans by geography and vertical (healthcare, education, government/state bid, foodservice, hospitality) with competitive analysis.
- Grow the equipment program: demo activity across the whole team, vendor partnerships, and the demo-to-sale pipeline.
- Represent the company across Kentucky and the region — associations, customer events, and executive relationships at key accounts.
Experience
- 7–10 years of sales experience including 5+ years leading sellers, with proven results in both growth and margin.
- Distribution or adjacent B2B strongly preferred (jan-san, foodservice, industrial, medical); candidates from other product-heavy industries who learn fast are welcome.
- Experience designing or administering sales incentive plans.
- Contract/GPO/bid experience (healthcare or education) preferred.
- Equipment or capital-goods selling experience a plus.
Education
Bachelor's degree in Business or a related field, or equivalent experience.
Requirements
- Fluency managing a team from CRM and operating data — we manage by our numbers and expect our VP to lead that way.
- Superior interpersonal skills; collaborates effectively at every level of a family-owned company. Small egos, direct conversations.

- Valid driver's license.
